DAVID HAIGH NOMINATED FOR TWO PRESTIGIOUS NATIONAL DIVERSITY AWARDS
LONDON: 20 June 2024
David Haigh, the Cornwall based human rights lawyer that acted for a Dubai Princess held hostage by her father, the ruler of Dubai, has been nominated for two prestigious National Diversity Awards. The 2024 nominations mark the fourth time David has been nominated for a National Diversity Award for his work in human rights and inclusivity in football – David was the first openly LGBTQ Managing Director of top English football club – Leeds United.
This year, David has this year been nominated for a Lifetime Achievement Award and Positive Role Model Award at the ITV National Diversity Awards. David was first nominated for a Positive Role Model award in 2020, reaching the shortlist of 6 finalists, when he was running the international #FreeLatifa campaign. A campaign David founded with Tiina Jauhiainen to secure the release of HRH Princess Latifa La Maktoum, the daughter of the ruler of Dubai.
The National Diversity Awards is a prestigious black-tie event, which celebrates the excellent achievements of grass- root communities that tackle the issues in today’s society, giving them recognition for their dedication and hard work. Charities, role models and community heroes will be honoured at the ceremony showcasing their outstanding devotion to enhancing equality, diversity and inclusion; thus embracing the excellence of all our citizens irrespective of race, faith, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability and culture.
Tiina Jauhiainen a co-founder of the FreeLatifa campaign said “I am delighted for David that he has been nominated for a lifetime achievement award and a positive role model award. David is a brave and talented human rights lawyer, he works tirelessly to help those suffering grave human rights abuses. He has taken on some of the worlds worst dictators and despots and won. He has also paved the way for inclusivity and diversity in sport in his promotion of LGBTQ inclusivity in football, as long back as a decade ago. “
David Haigh said “I am delighted that I have been nominated for a Lifetime Achievement Award and Positive Role Model award at the 2024 ITV National Diversity Awards.
I am honoured and humbled by these nominations. I am truly thankful for those who nominated me, it means so very much. I am really looking forward to the awards and especially meeting and learning more about my fellow nominees and the inspiring work they do.
It is even more humbling that this is the fourth time I have been nominated for a National Diversity Award, the first time was in 2020, when I reached the shortlist of 6 finalists, for my work in founding the international #FreeLatifa campaign with Tiina Jauhiainen. A campaign to secure the release of HRH Princess Latifa La Maktoum, the daughter of the ruler of Dubai.”
